Felix in conversation

Felix is doing his apprenticeship as an industrial clerk at the STORK Group in Magdeburg. He is currently in his 1st year of training.

How did you hear about STORK?

STORK was actually recommended to me at the careers advice service at secondary school. However, I had already seen the big blue trucks several times before.

Your apprenticeship in one or two sentences?

I am training to be an industrial clerk. Industrial clerk is a versatile profession and can be employed almost anywhere. You go into almost every department in the company, whether it's accounting, purchasing, warehousing or scheduling.

Why did you decide to train at STORK?

I would say it was because of my first trial day at STORK. I was given a very warm welcome and prepared for the day ahead. The employees who showed me around were very friendly and personable. They were able to explain everything to me. It just wasn't like other companies where I was invited for an interview.

How were the first few days at the company?

I was very well received. I was shown around a lot at the beginning. This quickly gave me an insight into what we do here at STORK. I rode in trucks and was shown around the yard. There was also a tour of our port area.

What does a typical working day as an apprentice at STORK look like?

In my current department, Registration, my day starts at 8 a.m. with unpacking incoming mail. Incoming invoices are scanned and passed on to the accounts department for further processing. After that, there are always certain daily tasks. For example, updating our vehicle list after the purchase and registration of new vehicles and construction machinery or updating the telephone list for new employees. In between, of course, the phone is always ringing and I transfer customers to the relevant departments. We are usually the first point of contact for customers and business partners. At the end of my working day, I check the e-mails again and prepare the outgoing mail for dispatch.

What do you particularly enjoy and why would you recommend this apprenticeship?

I particularly enjoy the contact with people. In addition, the job is actually very varied. I'm often out and about and not always in the office, as you might expect.

What interests should people have for your apprenticeship?

You should definitely be sociable and be able to speak English well in some situations. You should also be good at planning and organizing.

STORK as an employer in 3 words

Familiar. Experienced. Friendly.

What do you particularly like about the training company?

My colleagues, the excellent lunch service and, above all, the family atmosphere in the company.

What do you think could be improved?

As I really like technology, I would like us to become even more digital in the future and do more to replace paper. But I think we're already on the right track.

How was the transition from school to training?

The worst thing, I would say, was not being home until around 5 p.m./6 p.m.. But with time you get used to it and now it's not so bad. Apart from that, I enjoy working more than going to school.

Describe yourself in 3 words

I would describe myself as a helpful, friendly and well-organized person.

Where are you from?

From Heyrothsberge, a small village near Magdeburg.

Are you a member of a club? Which one?

I'm a member of the volunteer fire department.
